Barclays’ knowledge of the manufacturing industry was paramount in identifying appropriate solutions to meet our cashflow challenges. Our partnership with the Bank has been instrumental in continuing Shani’s growth trajectory.

Shani Group

Barclays supported Shani with a trade loan and receivables financing to support the group’s seasonal cashflow requirements.

The Client

Shani Group has over 60 years of history in the UK garment and fashion industry. The Group specialises in the design, manufacture and delivery of high-end outerwear to the UK High Street. In recent years, the business has re-invented itself from a domestic manufacturer to a group with global manufacturing and sourcing capabilities. Established by Mr Hollis Snr. and now managed by his sons, Shani has four companies under its corporate umbrella including the high-end consumer brand Grace & Oliver. Its broad product range, from premium products to high quality ‘fast fashion’, services a wide consumer audience.

The Challenge

Shani’s supplier base was facing increasing cashflow pressure as local economic conditions became more challenging. As a consequence, suppliers were increasingly seeking support from Shani by way of early payment, sometimes months before garments were ready. Shani was keen to support its suppliers as it has built a true partnership with them over many years of successful trading. This goal, however, needed to be balanced with the Group’s own cashflow considerations.

The Solution

Barclays provided Shani with Trade Loan and Receivables Finance facilities. The facilities work together in supporting cashflow requirements; from the earliest stage in the trade cycle when orders are placed, through manufacturing, transport and delivery and all the way until the sale proceeds are received from the buyers. The facilities are also structured so as to successfully meet the Group’s distinct seasonal cyclical cashflow requirement.
