Global Development Organisations

The Global Development Organisations (GDO) team is set up to enable Barclays to serve multinationals, government agencies and their contractors, as well as large non-profits and foundations, focused on international relief and development.

The GDO team has dedicated Relationship Directors in New York, London and Johannesburg. We can also provide access to the GDO Group’s wider network across Asia and Africa.

Nyagaka Ongeri, Managing Director, Global Head of Global Development Organisations

Nyagaka Ongeri, Managing Director, Global Head of Global Development Organisations

Nyagaka Ongeri is a Managing Director responsible for Global Corporates coverage as well as Head of the Global Development Organizations (GDO) Group based in New York. In this role, Nyagaka has responsibility for building dialogue and Corporate Banking business with these clients operating globally.

Before joining the team, Nyagaka was Head of Global Finance and Risk Solutions (GFRS) for Absa Capital in South Africa, which encompassed managing all of the bank’s financing products. Nyagaka joined Absa Capital in August 2009 from Barclays Capital in New York; where he was Co-Head of the Financial Institutions Debt Capital Markets Group for several years. He joined Barclays Capital in 2001, focused on growing the firm’s US presence in the financial institutions arena.

Prior to joining Barclays, Nyagaka was a Vice President in JP Morgan’s South African branch where for several years he focused on growing its institutional South African presence.

It was during his time in South Africa that Nyagaka Ongeri co-founded the Student Sponsorship Program of South Africa (SSP), a non-profit leadership organization that provides scholarships and mentors to over 650 high school students in South Africa and has made grants valued at over $10mm since inception in 2000. Nyagaka was honoured for his role in establishing SSP by being recognized as a recipient of the 2006 Barclays Chairman’s Award.

Nyagaka is a graduate of Howard University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honors). Nyagaka is also a graduate of Harvard Business School and has successfully completed the CFA examinations.

Nyagaka is an avid mountain climber and marathon runner, having scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro and Elbrus and completed seven marathons.



Aisling Quirke, Global Development Organisations Africa

Aisling Quirke is Head of the Global Development Organisations (GDO) Group in Africa and is responsible for coordinating GDO relationships and implementations across the continent.

Aisling has over 11 years of business development and public policy experience across the public and private sectors. Having started her career with the European Commission and the World Bank in Europe, and having later worked on governance, health and financial services in private sector roles in Africa, Aisling brings a unique understanding of GDOs across regions.
