I’ve worked for Barclays for just over 10 years now. I started in the Winchester branch as a business bank Relationship Manager and moved across to Corporate around 6 years ago. I took on the Hospitality and Leisure portfolio 4 years ago, having built up a number of relationships and a lot of experience in the sector since.
Strangest place for a client meeting?
My most unusual and most fun client meeting took place next to the penguin enclosure at an aquarium I look after! It was certainly different watching the penguins whilst we held the meeting…
Tell us about a time you’ve helped your client with something beyond banking?
I look after Portsmouth Football Club and they are partnered with a charity called Pompey in the Community – I have been working with the charity now for 5 years and over the years we have delivered numerous LifeSkills sessions to the children in their programme – most memorable was the week we spent working with their NCS (National Citizenship Service) teenagers. As a team we delivered 15 lifeskills sessions in a week to over 200 students. I am also now on the board of trustees for the charity.
What's the most exciting thing happening in your client's industry?
The current drive for consumers to have an ‘experience’ is changing the way the H&L industry thinks. It has resulted in a rise in innovative spaces for accommodation, such as yurts, pods and airstreams. It has got the whole industry thinking about how they can stand out and be different. Indoor entertainment venues such as escape rooms, immersive experiences, themed hotels and restaurants are all becoming increasingly popular, and there has been lots of innovation around using technology to create ‘wow’ moments; these are all trends in the industry right now.
